Over 30 water systems in Minnesota were targeted by a series of cyberattacks this past July. These water systems and operations were compromised, temporarily leaving some cities with a limited supply of water.
The source of these attacks have not been confirmed, but investigators say the evidence points towards Iranian hackers, due to their history of going after water systems in the United States and geopolitical motives.
An article from AP News points out, ”…local water plants or healthcare facilities often lack the funds and know-how to install the latest software patches or take other security steps. That has made them a favorite target both because of the relative ease of penetrating them and because of the panic such disruptions can cause.”
Unprotected systems, such as these, are the most susceptible to cybercriminals. Green Rocket Security offers multi-factor authentication which can protect your computers and networks. Check out our website for more information.
